Big news at GUNN this month as we announce Andy Bakshi’s promotion to Branch Manager in Calgary!

We’re ecstatic about this shift for GUNN as Andy started with GUNN right out of university and has learned a lot about our industry since then. He is a swell guy, and has shown care and professionalism on his projects, and we are very fortunate to have him advance in our TEAM!

Andy, lets start with congratulations on your promotion – way to go!
You’ve been with GUNN for almost six years now, tell us about your journey at GUNN…

My journey at GUNN has been an exciting one with a lot of opportunity to learn, grow and adapt. I started as a Technical Delivery Coordinator, learning the ropes of how GUNN operated, and from there slowly progressed as a Project Engineer, to Project Manager to where I am now. I was lucky enough to take part in all the different arms of the business (Modernization, New Construction, Inspections) which gave me the wealth of knowledge I needed to succeed. There is endless opportunity to learn and grow at GUNN and I’m excited to see where this path will take me.

Since joining GUNN, you’ve worked on an abundance of exciting, challenging and custom projects. What project was most stimulating and why?

Place 10 East, a project right across the street from our Calgary office, holds a special place in my heart. It was a project I got to witness from start to finish. The project was part of a redesign, after the excavation and part of the parkade was already constructed. A lot of unique obstacles were faced, and a lot of lessons learned. Best of all, I simply had to look out the window and watch the construction every day until it was complete!

Based in our Calgary Office, you get to work on projects across Canada and the United States. Where’s the most inspiring place you’ve visited for a project?

I’ve been lucky enough to check out small and big towns across Canada, everything from Brandon in Manitoba, to Vancouver or Toronto. Toronto is one of my favourite places to travel to. Being in the middle of the hustle and bustle in that city really made me want to be up early, be productive, but also stay up into the late hours of the night to continue discovering the city.

Now we know in a previous life you worked with cars…do you have any personal
projects on the go?

Sadly, I haven’t been able to focus much on working on cars anymore, but have shifted to wood working. Everything from making small knick-knacks to working on home renos. It’s been an interesting hobby to work on as it still requires a bunch of planning, and finding interesting techniques to overcome unforeseen conditions. Somehow, I’ve managed to build a large enough collection of tools, helping me tackle any project that comes down the pipe!

Join us in applauding Andy on his promotion!
