I believe compassion creates an opportunity for growth that is invaluable.
I am apt to spend my weekends volunteering, reading, drawing, or meditating… generally finding a sense of calm and purpose in a world where everything goes at such a fast pace. Taking time to reset on the weekends leaves me a happier, more productive person.
I strive to help people understand the value of acting from a place of compassion. I believe we should act from this place, not only when dealing with others but, especially in how we relate to ourselves. I may not always be successful in this, however, when we react with compassion we are able to initiate a far more productive and engaging conversation. I believe compassion creates an opportunity for growth that is invaluable. When we are all able to treat ourselves with compassion we are, in turn, able to do the same for others.
I was 20 and had been living away from home for three years when my Stepfather told me that of all six (yes 6!) children, he always knew that I’d land on my feet, no matter the situation; he said that life would never get me down, and that my humor and determination would always be enough to carry me through. Hearing someone acknowledge my strengths, as independent and capable, at an age when I was trying to figure myself out, was invaluable. He passed away last year, and this comment, this belief in me, has carried me through every challenge. When it feels like something is insurmountable, I remind myself of the me he saw.
