We can’t tell you the number of times we’ve been asked this question – and to be fair, until we came to work at GUNN Consultants, most of us had no idea that this niche existed.
So just in case you’re wondering this very thing, we thought we’d provide an outline of what exactly an elevator consultant does, as well as the benefits of hiring a consultant.
First and foremost, the most important benefit of having a consultant on your team is that we are an advocate for the client.
Navigating the construction and elevator industries can be challenging, and having an independent consultant represent you throughout the process provides peace of mind, and protects the client’s interests.

CUSTOM ESCALATOR PLACEMENT USING A CRANE!
The team at GUNN Consultants has had the pleasure of acting as Project Manager for the installation of new escalators at Harbour Centre over this last year, but the icing on the cake was a feat of engineering excellence on May 24th, as we oversaw two escalators being craned into the building at 555 West Hastings …through a window!
Here’s a brief look at the process:
The first escalator was connected to the crane and carefully turned toward the window opening.
After considerable deliberation, measurement, and guidance from the crew, the crane and escalator entered the building.
Due to size constraints, the escalator had to be installed in separate pieces. This is the lower half being put into place.
And the top portion being lowered and attached to the bottom half:
Skip ahead a few hours and here is the (partially) finished product:
Now that’s some serious engineering!
